The christmas lights along our street
Are such a pretty sight
And the silver bells are ringing loud
As Santa says Good Night.

And my own home is decked with things
That are only there for show
Like a snowman out in my front yard
And holly on my door.

But I don't feel much like opening
The gifts under my tree
Lord, I'm thankful, yes indeed
But they shouldn't be for me.

It's your birthday, Jesus
Happy Birthday, Jesus

A Christmas tree and candy canes
Are in my living room
And the gifts are piled beneath the tree
For everyone but you.

I bought my mom a silver vase
Little Joe a new baseball
But for You, I have nothing but
The greatest gift of all.

Wrapping up my gifts for you
Just could not be done
Even all the ribbon in the world
Could not contain my love.

It's your birthday, Jesus
Happy Birthday, Jesus

But I don't feel much like opening
The gifts under my tree
Lord, I'm thankful, yes indeed
But they shouldn't be for me.

It's your birthday, Jesus
Happy Birthday, Jesus

And Merry Christmas
Dear Jesus
